Julia Tcharfas

Julia Tcharfas (b. 1982 Donetsk, Ukraine)

Julia Tcharfas lives and works in London, UK.

Julia Tcharfa’s artistic practice combines research and studio methodology. The work takes many forms from sculptural installation and arrangements, to events and performance. Some of her most recent work includes an event titled Cafe Visionaire (2012) at Limazulu Project Space in London, and a collaborative curatorial project as part of the Permacultures Artist Residency with [Space] Studios titled The Really Wild Show (2012) at The White Building in London. A significant part of her work is a collaborative practice with Timothy Ivison.


During her residency at HIAP Tcharfas will be developing a public event for the Helsinki Plant Tram, a mobile urban garden project by Wayward Plants. Her past collaboration with Wayward Plants includes the Urban Orchard (2011) and Market Estate (2010) in London.

Julia Tcharfas’s residency is part of the Arts de Signs – Signalling Art as A Social Design -program at HIAP and the Back of the Envelope – Cultural Relations and Design –program at the British Council.
