HIAP will offer a total of six Mid-Career Laboratory Residencies during 2010 and 2011. Each residency can last two to three months. All Nordic and Baltic artists and art professionals (curators, researchers and other art practitioners) are eligible to apply. The residencies are aimed at art professionals with at least 15 years of experience in the field of art. The HIAP Mid-Career Laboratory Residencies are supported by Nordic Culture Point.
Each HIAP Mid-Career Laboratory Residency includes: a grant to cover travel costs to and from Helsinki; a monthly grant to cover living expenses; plus accommodation and working space in a HIAP studio at the Cable Factory or on Suomenlinna. Depending on the resident’s plans for producing work during the residency period, HIAP can also provide a small production budget, as well as administrative and production support.
The Mid-Career Laboratory Residencies bring together artists and arts professionals from the Nordic and Baltic countries. During their residencies, artists and professionals can further investigate their own working methods, acquire knowledge of new techniques, and/or seek new content for their art. Using the financial resources in the residency’s production budget it is also possible to organize small-scale discussions, exhibitions, or, for example, to hire a local mentor for the time spent in Helsinki.
One main aim of the Mid-Career Laboratory Residencies is to provide artists with the necessary time for reflection, research and artistic development, and thus to help them renew their practice in the long-term, possibly in co-operation with curators and researchers or other actors on the local art scene.
