Sulme & Jae-Nder Fluid, a collective comprised of Korean artists Yeosulme Kang and Jaehwa Baek based in Germany, draw from a wide range of artistic methodologies to reframe marginalized narratives. They explore socio-political themes such as gender, queer identities, nationality, and age, through their studies at Hochschule für Künste Bremen and Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg. Sulme’s practice explores themes beyond physical attributes like age and gender. Through intuitive and surrealistic elements, she transcends materialism, allowing audiences to reflect on their intrinsic nature and shared humanity. Meanwhile, Jae-Nder Fluid’s digital spaces blur boundaries, questioning queer-spatiality and gender diversity.
During the HIAP residency, we, as a collective, plan to explore the unique spatial and sensory qualities of Helsinki through a digital mapping project. By intertwining the spaces of Helsinki with a mix of sounds and visuals, we aim to cultivate a synesthetic experience. Another core aspect of our effort is to amplify the diverse voices of immigrant artists in Helsinki, trying to integrate their experiences into our digital cityscape. These narratives add depth to our exploration, building upon our previous work on foreign-artist experiences in Bremen, Germany. Our goal is to foster an artistic dialogue that invites diverse perspectives and experiences into our collective practices.
