Artist Talk by Zbigniew Warpechowski
Zbigniew Warpechowski (b. 1938, Poland) is a conceptual artist, poet and pioneer of performance art in Poland and internationally. In 1986 he was one of the founders of the group Black Market International. He did his first performance in 1967 and, according to him, it was born out of the poetry he wrote. Since then he has made over 260 performances in 26 countries. Now he is visiting Helsinki to participate and perform in Fake Finns & Others in Gallery Augusta.
The themes of Warpechowski’s artistic work are impossible to put in a single frame. He is a radical critic of contemporary culture with an uncompromising attitude, though at the same time his approach can be described as poetic and philosophic.
In the artist talk Zbigniew Warpechowski will share his insights after working with performance and other forms of art for over five decades. The talk is held on Thursday, May 24 at 7 pm in Gallery Augusta, Suomenlinna. It is realized in collaboration with Theatre Academy Helsinki, New Art Contact and HIAP.
