POEMATKI

“My first performance I did in 1967, was born of my poetry.
Now I go back to poetic with performance series POEMATKI (Short poems with improvisation)”

Zbigniew Warpechowski is a conceptual artist, poet and pioneer of performance art in Poland and internationally. In 1986 he was one of the founders of group Black Market International. The themes of his performances are extremely varied. He is a radical critic of contemporary culture with an uncompromising attitude, though at the same time his approach can be described as poetic and philosophic.

Belén Cueto (Spain)

Inspiration for art comes from a need to find a channel to connect with people who live unaware of the art world. I want to create new spaces for communication through the use of collective utensils, such as flyers and paper money. I take advantage of public spaces and everyday objects in order to create a communication channel that forces the spectator out of a passive attitude and gives him/her opportunities to take an active role.

Carlos Llavata Gascon (Spain)

In Spanish slang, rabbit means “pussy”.

An ironic, communicative and anti-boring performance that wishes to highlight one of the main conceptual paranoia nowadays: the rabbit world and its potential in the XXI century, its endangered imaginary world. Is the pornographic genre (playboy) invading all the conceptual aspects of the rabbit’s world and, therefore, would this be the reason that leads to its extinction, leaving all other values aside, such as magic, hunting, cartoons, rabbit’s foot key ring and everything these entail?

These thoughts I develop with the means of performance art, audiovisual format, ceramic sculpture and photography.

Carlos Llavat Gascon is an independent visual and performance artist who lives and works in Madrid, Spain.

Serge Olivier Fokoua (Cameroon)

Africa Earth

Serge Olivier Fokoua is an African artist visiting Helsinki for the first time. Far away from his homeland, to which he is much attached, he is making a nostalgic action: a great plunge back to the earth of Africa through a performative action.

Serge Olivier Fokoua was born in Douala, Cameroon, in 1976. He lives and works in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Fokoua is chairman of the collective Les Palettes du Kamer and director of the RAVY Festival (Rencontres d’Arts Visuels de Yaoundé).

Chilli (2011)

Since I live in foreign countries I have automatically started to compare my own Korean food and the foreign food. In Korean food we use very often the hot taste of the big red pepper. I like it very much. For me this is a taste which starting from the mouth becomes converted into the whole body: the taste of food, the memory of food, the good feeling after eating, the relationship with people, learning about a different culture of food and behavior, respect for food, rituals of food, … histories of food… a lot of things can be thought about it.

Coming from this I want to explore my own Korean taste in my art. In doing so I discovered a lot of different perspectives.

Giorgio Convertito (Fake Finn from Italy)

“They say dance is a kinaesthetic art…”

Giorgio Convertito is a dancer and dance maker, currently based in Helsinki, Finland. Since January 2006 he has been the organizer and curator of The Helsinki Meeting Point, a dance and music improvisation event. He is currently obsessed with questions such as: why do we make dances? Why is dance so difficult to understand? How do we participate in a dance performance?

Riikka Theresa Innanen (Finland)

& Marko Timlin (Fake Finn from Germany)

The dance will be a collaboration of musician/composer Marko Timlin and dancer/choreographer Riikka Teresa Innanen.

“We will be working with the idea of invisible form, seen and unseen, using small sources of light and reflections in movement in total darkness to create an unique experience of dance and music.”

Riikka Theresa Innanen has worked as a dancer, improviser and choreographer. In previous works she has been combining concepts from mathematic, system theory and cybernetics together with somatic dance techniques to challenge the concepts of choreography.

Marko Timlin is a Helsinki-based sound artist, improviser and musician. Through the intuitive interaction with his self-made instruments he creates a delicate balance between order and chaos, man and machine.

Pekka Luhta (Finland)

The starting point of Post-Modern art can be condensed into eight themes: memory, dreams, matter, earth, representation, emotion, thought, and utopia. But what comes after this?

Pekka Luhta is a Helsinki-based visual and performance artist, critic and an organiser of live art events.

Tanja Koistila (Finland)

Live performances by visual artist Tanja Koistila, who lives and works in Helsinki, are realized through the means of sculpture, installation, video and performance art. Many of them investigate isolation and isolating from other people. Thematically, this could be called social anesthesia.

Jone Takamäki (Finland)

“In his music, Jone Takamäki mixes together different sonic spices from around the world. This free and spontaneous improvisation keeps its form with the help of composed lighthouses. His sound traveling is a combination of both acoustic and electronic material.”

Jone Takamäki is musician/sound-design teacher/improviser from Finland.
