Linus Riepler
Linus Rieplers studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. His work deals with the complexity of space, its perception and the question of how a narrative can be inscribed in a spatial setting. Based on personal memories combined with literary and philosophical references, he experiments with different kinds of storytelling. Elements of the environment, stage, set and model converge into multi-layered walk-in rooms focusing on the participatory role of the viewer.
Recent exhibitions include Galerie Krinzinger Vienna (2024), Center of Contemporary Art Tbilisi (2023), Open Art Biennial Örebro (2019)
I am interested in how urban spaces are orchestrated through artificial lighting. During my residency at HIAP I will focus on the idea of the street lantern as a social object and as a narrative medium. Considering the current global situation affecting light production and energy efficiency, urban lighting could be contemplated as an element of social discourse. In my project I want to deal with the interaction between the lantern and its environment and how they influence each other. Subjects like inside and outside, light and shadow, reality and fiction will be the central aspects of my participatory work.
Linus Riepler’s residency is realised in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport (BMKOES).
