Shweta Dash

Shweta Dash is a textile artist and designer exploring material empathy, memory, and transformation. Blending hands-on techniques with technology, she works with advanced weaving, experimental coatings, and digital processes to study the boundaries of textile surfaces. Her practice is driven by research, engaging with material sciences and environmental narratives to create tactile expressions of change—whether through shifting states of water or evolving cultural memories. She collaborates across design, sustainability, and craft, using textiles as a way to question, document, and reimagine our relationship with materials and the stories they hold.

During my residency at HIAP, I am growing salt crystals on handmade paper, exploring how materials transform over time. Alongside this, I am journaling through 10-second illustrations using waste materials, capturing fleeting moments and textures. This process-driven approach allows me to engage with themes of change, impermanence, and material storytelling. By working with salt—a substance that preserves yet erodes—I aim to reflect on environmental cycles and memory. Through these experiments, I hope to spark conversations about the tactile nature of materials and the fragile narratives they carry.
