Dovilė Tumpytė
Dovilė Tumpytė (b. 1978) is a curator and project manager of the National Gallery of Art (NGA, a subdivision of Lithuanian Art Museum). From 2007 to 2011 she headed the Art Information Centre of the NGA, focused on collecting and disseminating the information about contemporary Lithuanian art locally and internationally.
She (co-)curated the exhibition and education projects in Lithuania and abroad, including The Crowds. The representation of crowds in Lithuanian art from the 19th century till nowadays (2012, NGA), The Ornament: artists talk about artists (a series of five events with emerging Lithuanian artists, 2012, NGA), international exhibition The Invisible History of Exhibitions. Parallel Chronologies (Riga Art Space, Latvia, 2011, curated the Lithuanian part of the exhibition), the international exhibition of film and video art A Million And One Days (2010, NGA, Vilnius), video screening programs Body. Gestures, Postures and Beyond (2010), At the Speed of Architecture (2009, NGA), Young Baltic artists’ exhibition Space Oddity (2009, Lille, FR), young Lithuanian artists’ exhibition Down the Rabbit Hole: Meeting the Familiar (2008, Rael Artel Gallery: non-profit project space, Tartu, Estonia; 2009, Riga Art Space, Riga). In collaboration with other partner-institutions she co-curated and organised the international seminar and workshop series for art specialists Three Uses of the Knife (2009, 2010, Vilnius), a series of guided tours by artists and theoreticians Histories&Meetings (2009, 2010, NGA), ran curator-in-research program and platform for discussions (Who is afraid of the curator?) (2008-2009, Vilnius).
Currently, she is interested in the modes of exhibition narrative constructions and narrativity in contemporary art.
