Helsinki – Tbilisi Exchange

Helsinki-Tbilisi Residency Exchange offers residencies for Finnish artists in Center of Contemporary Art – Tbilisi and for Georgian artists in HIAP, Helsinki. The exchange programme is co-organised by HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme and Center of Contemporary Art – Tbilisi. The exchange is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation as part of HIAP Osmosis programme.

Center of Contemporary Art – Tbilisi is an independent, nonprofit organization. CCA-Tbilisi is acting as a hub in Georgia, linking and working with similar organizations around the world. The center works on contextualization of contemporary visual culture and helps Georgian and international artists to effectively present creative production to local and international audiences.

The aim of the exchange is to provide participating artists with time, space, and support for their creative work and to foster dialogue, collaboration, and networking opportunities. Through the residencies, the programme also encourages cultural interaction between the two cities and countries.

In 2015, one artist from Finland will be selected for a two-month residency at Center of Contemporary Art – Tbilisi. For the selected artist, the residency will cover the cost of travel from and to Helsinki, a living space, and a working grant of 2400 euros. The artist will also be given the opportunity to present his/her practice to local colleagues and audiences in the framework of CCA-Tbilisi’s programme of public events.

The residency in Tbilisi will take place in September–October 2015. The residency will coincide with the Tbilisi Triennial (October 2015), an international exhibition and research-based educational project initiated by CCA-Tbilisi. This second edition of the Tbilisi Triennial, titled ‘SOS – Self Organized Systems’, is concentrated on the systematic knowledge of community, social units formed through agreement of its participants and functioning according to the norms of reciprocity, tolerance, and trust. Self-organized systems from around the globe are invited to participate.

The selected artist for the residency in Helsinki is Nino Sekhniashvili, a Tbilisi-based Georgian artist working with different media and mainly focusing on the notion of identity. Her residency takes place during February-March 2015.

The deadline for the applications is March 31, 2015, midnight Finnish time. The results of the selection process are communicated to all applicants in due time.
