Maxim Spivakov

Maxim Spivakov is a visual artist, designer, and researcher based in Moscow. His practice spans from painting and installation to design and research. In the past years his work was mainly focused on the vicissitudes of the image, modes of visibility, and the political imagination. His current research concerns the problem of techno-aesthetics as a reciprocal implications of technicity, sensations and desire.

During this residency I will conduct a study on the mappings of body and machine relation and mutual recognition given that both parties, the corporeal and the machinic, allegedly are haunted by reason and intelligence.

Maxim Spivakov’s residency is realised in the context of the Helsinki Design Residency Programme in collaboration with Strelka Institute, Iaspis, Helsinki Design Week and Design Museum Helsinki. The programme is curated by HIAP Associate Curator Martin Born.

The residency is supported by the Finnish Ministry of Education, the Embassy of Finland in Moscow and the Finnish Institute in St. Petersburg.
