Antti Leppänen: The Farnsworth House Revisited
Antti Leppänen’s (b. 1978) quasi-scientific case study of the Farnsworth House by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) explores the effects of climate change and other issues.
The Farnsworth House was commissioned by Edith Farnsworth for a riverside site in Illinois. The architect was given considerable freedom, and the restrictive realities of everyday life could be disregarded in this design intended for weekend use by just one person. The resulting glass-and-steel pavilion is regarded as an icon of modernism and reflects the architect’s vision at its purest.
