Five Varjoryhmä dancers; Anne Hiekkaranta, Vera Nevanlinna, Tuovi Rantanen, Suvi Ruotoistenmäki and Liisa Ylä-Outinen, four artists from different fields of visual arts; Elina Brotherus, Outi Pieski and ARS Fennica-candidates Seppo Renvall and Maria Duncker, have, together with choreogapher Harri Kuorelahti, light designer Marianne Nyberg, sound designer Johanna Storm and costume designer Niina Huovinen, produced Harvat ja valitut for Cable Factory. The piece will be performed on the 4th floor of the C-staircase, at the rehearsal studio of Zodiak, hallway, HIAP Project Room, HIAP lounge and studio.

The premiere takes place on February 5 at 7 pm and the performances continue until February 20. From February 6 until February 20 at the HIAP Project Room there will be an exhibition showing Outi Pieski’s video installation and documentary material on the Harvat ja valitut project.

Outi Pieski (born in 1973) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki in 2000. She lives and works in Utsjoki, in the Finnish part of Samiland. Pieski is artist-in-residence at HIAP during January-February 2008. Outi Pieski`s paintings and material collages are encounters with space and landscape. Their background lies in Sami culture, Northern environment and the world of a child. Occasionally, her paintings have been combining used textiles or small, three-dimensional figures and objects. She also works with traditional Sami handicrafts.

Harvat ja valitut continues co-operation that started in 2005. The workgroup has been searching for encounters of visual arts and dance, which again relate to the viewer and his experiences. Harvat ja valitut is a performance that can be experienced as a dance performance, live installation or as a social, shared experience. The viewer is free to move around in the spaces and construct his own, unique experience. The duration and the structure of the piece vary.
