In their installation at Villa Eläintarha, Mikaela Steby Stenfalk (SE), Maxim Spivakov (RU) and Mayumi Niiranen-Hisatomi (JP/FI) showcase excerpts of their ongoing researches conducted as part of their participation in the 2020 Helsinki Design Residency program. In the focus of the program this year stand intelligences of different kinds – machinic, bodily, linguistic-logical, materially afforded – which the residents explore in their practices passing between design, architecture, art, philosophy and craft.
Related: On Thursday, September 10 from 9:00 to 11:00 the residents will introduce their researches at the Design Museum and discuss them in a hybrid offline / online conversation with Nicolay Boyadjiev (Strelka Institute) and Magnus Ericson (Iaspis), moderated by Martin Born. The conversation will also be live-streamed. Please find more information on the event here and on the Design Museum’s event page.
Access and hygiene: Access to the Villa is not barrier-free. There is a gravel path leading up to the entrance from either Eläintarhatie or Hakaniemi, and two sets of stairs on the way in, with two and three steps, respectively. Passage width is ca. 1,10 m. Please observe that in respect for hygienic concerns a maximum number of five visitors will be permitted inside the Villa at any time.
The Helsinki Design Residency is a program of HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme curated by Martin Born in cooperation with Strelka Institute, Iaspis, Helsinki Design Week and Design Museum. The program is supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Embassy of Finland in Moscow and the Finnish Institute in St. Petersburg.
