Jana Unmussig: Colour, Colour
20-27 March, Zodiak
The eye seeing, the eye sensing. What does it see, what does it sense? Movement. Movement of the body, movement of the mind. Thus, what happens when the eye slips away? The hand takes over, the knee takes over, perception alters with seeing.
Colour, Colour, a new creation by choreographer Jana Unmüßig (b. 1980) from Berlin, co-produced by Zodiak – Center for New Dance and Kampnagel, performed and danced without music by four performers, lingers in a space between seeing and perceiving. And it stands in line with Unmüßig´s previous choreographies.
“What comes together in Jana Unmüßigs choreographies have long time seemed incompatible in dance: conceptual thinking and sensual awareness. Through the consequent reduction of any stage action, the perceptive observer gradually imagines a kind of tactile vision and senses a heightened expectation of the next movement.” – freelance curator and theater scholar Pirkko Husemann
The working group includes the dancers Hanna Ahti, Gabriela Aldana-Kekoni, Eeva Muilu and Sofia Simola, and and renowned visualizes, lighting designer Heikki Paasonen and costume designer Janne Renvall.
HIAP artist-in-residence Jana Unmüßig has worked as a choreographer and resident artist in several dance centers in Europe and North America. Currently, she is making an artistic PhD thesis at the Theatre Academy of Finland.
Colour, Colour is a co-production of Zodiak – Center for New Dance, Helsinki and Kampnagel, Hamburg in cooperation with HIAP (Helsinki International Artist Programme).
