Mikko Myöhänen: Street Rhythms
The new paintings in Mikko Myöhänen’s (b. 1975) Street Rhythms exhibition are pictures of the city. Myöhänen paints an urban landscape or little pieces of it, improvisations on the city and its heartbeat.
Myöhänen’s paintings are like the voices and clamour of the city in visual form, a stratified networking of and battle between different patterns, signs, shapes and colours. At times, they are powerfully dissonant and jumbled, at others, beautiful and aesthetic, and usually both. Technically the paintings come from some middle ground between writing, drawing and painting. Myöhänen primarily works using spray paint and drawing ink, sometimes also acrylics and oils.
