Peer-to-Peer: Akira Akira & Andy Gracie
19 November, 6-8 pm, HIAP Studio 1, Cable Factory, C-Entrance, 4th Floor
November’s Peer-to-Peer offers an opportunity to get to know current HIAP residents Akira Akiraand Andy Gracie.
Akira Akira will discuss the unwieldy relationship between thinking and making that is at the core of his practice. He will elaborate on the link between Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, ex-French footballer Zinedine Zidane, a pot of chicken stock, philosophy of Gilles Deleuze that his practice has forged, and how an Alvar Aalto door handle may soon join this eclectic mix.
Andy Gracie will discuss the projects that are related to the research he is doing while in residency at HIAP. Gracie, an invited visiting researcher at Biofilia in the University of Aalto, is currently working on examinations of the relationship between art and science. By utilising scientific procedures and subjects within an artistic practice Gracie aims to reveal how metaphor, ambiguity and poetry can be extracted from the rigorous pursuit of truth.
Peer-to-Peer on Tuesday 19.11.2013 at 6–8 pm. Welcome!
ps. Note also Yusuke Shimura’s Live Drawing Event on the same date.
