Finnish artist, Heini Aho, spent two months (March – April 2008) as artist-in-residence at Centre D `Art I Natura based in Catalonia, amid the rugged mountainscape of the Spanish Pyrenees. The initial strangeness of living in a small village of only twenty inhabitants is vividly reflected in Aho’s films and video collages. Her main interest, as the title of the exhibition suggests, is in finding equilibrium in an alien environment and the subsequent discovery of the fragile and illusory nature of ‘truth’. As the artist herself states, “There is no reality; what surrounds us is a sum of many parts that we piece together entirely by ourselves.”
