Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė

Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė is an artist, curator, and researcher whose practice and research are grounded in methodologies such as people’s history, feminist and queer ethnography, and theory. She has conducted numerous studies on labor history, particularly focusing on women’s work stories from the Soviet era and the 90ties. Recently, collaborating with curator Edvinas Grinkevičius at the Kaunas Artists’ House, Agnė has curated the event series “Obscene West. Naglis,” which explores changes in the cultural context related to sexualities during the tumultuous period of the 90s in Lithuania.

During the residency, I aim to further develop the film script which is based on women’s work stories from factory life in the Soviet era and the 90s in Lithuania. By December 2023, approximately 30 women’s work stories were collected using the ethnographic method of oral history. During the HIAP residency, the primary goals include further developing the main plotline of the feature film script, fleshing out characters, and seeking consultation from fellow artists and curators based in Helsinki.
