Alexandra Tatar
Alexandra Tatar is an artist based in Vienna. In her recent artistic practice, she takes the space called ‘Central and Eastern Europe’ as her artistic terrain and focuses on systems and interdependencies which have historically shaped these spaces. Her work has been exhibited at MNAC National Museum of Contemporary Art Bucharest (RO) and FLUCA – Austrian Cultural Pavilion Plovdiv (BG) amongst others, and her video work has been screened at international film festivals.
During the residency, I will work on the third chapter of my intimate durational project around the topic of work. The first chapter dealt with the current landscape of temporary migrant work in Europe’s agricultural sector. The second chapter looked back to the 1970s Europe, exposing the contracted worker model from the perspective of a socialist subject. The third chapter will focus on the work of the land, engaging in the discussion on concepts of nature and pushing back the temporal frame to the early 20th century.
Alexandra Tatar’s residency is realised in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport (BMKOES).
