Anton Karyuk
Anton Karyuk is a Ukrainian multidisciplinary artist based in Vilnius, Lithuania. His work examines marginalized communities, social identities, and the interplay between society and ecology. Born in Dnipro, Ukraine, Anton holds a master’s degree in Architecture. Since 2015, his practice has evolved from abstract painting to encompass installation, performance, and video art. Using minimalist forms and an abstract visual language, Anton engages intimate and socially charged themes. His works have been showcased internationally, fostering connections between art and public discourse while exploring the intersections of personal and collective narratives.
During my HIAP residency, I plan to explore the intersection of memory, identity, and queer archival practices. Building on my previous experience working with Finland’s queer history, I aim to transform archival materials into dynamic multimedia artworks, including installations and video projects. My goal is to reinterpret personal narratives and historical records, shedding light on marginalized voices. This project examines how creative processes can bring archival materials to life, fostering deeper public engagement. I find this exploration essential as it bridges past and present, amplifies underrepresented stories, and reimagines memory in a way that resonates with contemporary culture.
