Gülizar Dogan
Gülizar Dogan was born in Derik, Turkey. She studied painting in the Fine Arts Faculty of Dicle University, Diyarbakir, and later co-founded the art collective Hunera Berxwedani there. She worked as an art instructor at state schools in Diyarbakir and its precincts. She continued her work in Aram Tigran City Conservatory, the first ever Kurdish language art institute in Turkey. She has worked as a ceramic artist at Piya Ceramic in Sur, Diyarbakir. She has starred in the feature film Voice of My Father directed by Orhan Eskikoy & Zeynel Dogan, premiered in the Rotterdam Film Festival. She is also an animation artist and original character creator at Zarok TV, Turkey’s first and only Kurdish language children’s TV channel. She has been part of group shows in various locations from Diyarbakir, Urfa to Istanbul. Gülizar is the producer and art director of a documentary project called Fotoringo, about a local photographer who strolled around the villages of Elbistan on his bike for fifteen years, with a sombrero on his head and tongue twisters in his mouth, and the photographs he took during those years.
