Hitomi Usui

Hitomi Usui was born 1980 in Tokyo. Usui graduated from Nihon University College of Bioresource Sciences, Department of Marine Science and Resources. In 2004 she entered Tokyo University of the Arts, and after graduating from Department of Urushi-Art (Japanese lacquer) she completed her graduate studies in Woodworking in 2010. Usui works primarily with wood, and her practice focuses on materials, tools, methods, and the phenomena that takes place in her environment, as she imagines a ‘Wood Age’ in prehistory.
