Ian Yang
Ian Yang (b. 1985)
With a background in Film Studies, Ian Yang was a grantee of Erasmus Mundus Scholarship by the European Commission in 2009. He studied Performance Studies in Amsterdam and Helsinki, and assisted the curation of the HIAP exhibition Snapshots of Tourism in 2010. Over the past years, Yang has been involved in a variety of artistic and cultural exchange projects between Europe and the Greater China, and a freelance art critic and writer for Chinese language magazines and online media. Yang is based in Amsterdam and currently the curatorial fellow for the exhibition on Dutchman Hans van Dijk, who lived in China during 1990s and was of the utmost importance to Chinese contemporary art and artists, to be shown in Rotterdam’s Witte de With contemporary art centre in autumn 2014.
The residency was realised in context of Urban Agents programme which aims to develop projects in China and Hong Kong in collaboration with Finnish Artists. The programme is curated by Marita Muukkonen.
