Jack Pavlik

Jack F.X Pavlik (b. 1967)

Jack Pavlik’s work is about movement and how it affects the relationships between forms. Whether it is a computer programmed mechanical object with a life of its own, or repurposed piece of institutional furniture used in a performance, his work is about the manipulation and results of movement.

Pavlik is a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design MFA program (2012); prior to his studies at the college creating kinetic sculpture with numerous local and international exhibitions. Most recently he has been a participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and a 2012 Joan Mitchell MFA Grantee.

Jack Pavlik lives and works in Minneapolis, U.S.A.

During his residency at HIAP Jack Pavlik will be examining the effect of institutional furniture and other behaviour modification systems in public and private spaces. He sees this phenomenon as something that is largely international; objects such as mass-produced furniture are ubiquitous in their design and how they are used cross-culturally. Pavlik is also interested in the examination of the variations of use in Finland and how they compare to his experience in the United States.
