Katrīna Neiburga
Katrīna Neiburga (b. 1978), lives and works in Riga, Latvia.
Mostly I work in the field of video installation, making documentary movies, taking part in social art projects, but in order to get rid of my ego and to earn some money, time after time I do opera, theatre sets or video designs (Latvian National Opera, New Latvian Theatre, Music Theatre K. S. Stanislavskovo i V. I. Nemirovicha-Danchenko in Moscow, Dallhall Opera in Sweden). I do videos for several music bands and have an experience of live VJ.
My interests are: everyday settings and situations, the sense of the presence of a woman, reflections on a female taxi driver’s experience, the archeological dig within the chaos of a woman’s handbag, the chemistry of the special relationship between a woman and her child, construction site memories etc.
My current work during my HIAP residency is a documentary installation about an abandoned, huge Soviet time press house in the centre of Riga. The building is half destroyed, but I will try to build it again from scratch – talking to former employees of the press house and collecting their memories.
