Léann Herlihy
Léann Herlihy [they/them] is an artist, researcher and educator based in Dublin. Their practice is informed by trans*, queer ecological, feminist and abolitionist theoretical frameworks which deploy alternative modalities of expression through an array of mediums including performance, video, billboards, sculpture, text, workshops and radical pedagogies.
Léann Herlihy is a lecturer in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. They are the recipient of the Arts Council of Ireland’s Next Generation Artist Award [2022], Visual Arts Bursary [2021; 2023] & Agility Award [2021; 2022] as well as being awarded a Three Year Residency [2024-27] at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
During HIAP Residency, I will be working towards my largest and most ambitious project to date, With Everything We’ve Got! (2023-ongoing); an expanding transdisciplinary project which rigorously and creatively critiques the positioning of Otherness in a heteronormative society.
This extended duration of time and spatial stability would create the opportunity to play in my practice; leaning into the thrill of edging between, through and beyond social understandings of success and failure. Through this, my practice will become re-contextualised as familiarities are lost in order for something new to be found.
Léann Herlihy’s residency at HIAP is realised in the context of a residency exchange between HIAP and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin.
