Past Residents Marcia Vaitsman
Marcia has been working since 1995 as a media artist based in São Paulo and Cologne. She graduated in Media Studies at the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP) and post graduated at the Academy of Media Arts of Cologne (KHM), Germany. From 1992 until 1995 she took several study visits to the University of Vienna (German and Media Institutes). She has worked with “Tabuleiro da Baiana” (São Paulo) and “Candyland Comics” (Curitiba) in Brazil. Between 1999 and 2001 she worked as tutor at KHM, first for the multimedia and performance atelier of Valie Export and later for the Department of Media Design. At the moment she works as member of the artist / teaching staff of KHM. She has received the EMMA (Electronic Multimedia Award) in UK and held an artist´s residency at IAMAS, Japan.
Marcia Vaitsman´s residency at HIAP is organised in collaboration with the UNESCO-Aschberg bursary for Artists programme.
During her residency at HIAP Marcia Vaitsman will develope the fourth issue of the experimental art magazine Fusion in collaboration with Pascal Glissman and other artists in a workshop to be held in November. Marcia is also producing performances and screenings of her video works during her stay in Helsinki.
