Mats Stjernstedt

Mats Stjernstedt studied art history in Lund and worked previously as an art critic for Artforum, Flash Art, Art+Text, Siksi the Nordic Art Review and Aftonbladet. He wrote catalogue essays for artists like Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Johanna Billing, Rivane Neuenschwander and Ann-Sofi Sidén. As a freelance curator Stjernstedt has been working for Futura Centre for Contemporary Art, Prague, Turku Art Museum, IASPIS, Swedish Institute, Stockholm, NIFCA, Helsinki, and Malmö Art Academy. Since 2001, Mats Stjernstedt has been the director of Index in Stockholm. During 2009 Index has presented projects and solo exhibitions with Sean Snyder, Mladen Stilinovic, Alevtina Kakhidze, Susan Hiller and Goldin + Senneby. Among his group exhibitions are “Space between”, (Museum Anna Nordlander and Gävle Konstcentrum) ”Alphabetical order” (Index), ”Exteriors” (Index at Center for Contemporary Art, Kiev and Artist’s Union Gallery, Odessa), “Collect call”, (H.arta space, Timisoara) and ”(dys)function” and “Public act” (both Lunds konsthall, Lund).
