Mother Tongue
Tiffany Boyle (b. 1986, Scotland) and Jessica Carden (b. 1987, Scotland)
Mother Tongue is a research-led curatorial project, initiated in 2009 by Tiffany Boyle and Jessica Carden, in response to individual periods of research in northern Scandinavia and West Africa. The project was formed out of a period of reciprocal exchange surrounding parallel concerns including (but not limited to) linguistic purity, indigenousness, ethnicity and post-colonialism. Mother Tongue’s output has the possibility to exist across multiple platforms – such as exhibitions, events and texts – and endeavours to be in dialogue with artists, curators, writers, researchers and theorists. The project is currently based in Stockholm in line with our participation on the CuratorLab programme at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm.
