Tinna Guðmundsdóttir is an active facilitator in the Icelandic art scene. Her most extensive projects include: editor of the publication The Living Art Museum 1978-2008 (2010), producer of the documentary Seeing Eye Dog (2017) and director of Skaftfell – Center for Visual Art (2012-2018).
In her artistic practice Tinna focuses on systemic errors and existential crises that arise from the friction between survival and economy, especially care and industry. The starting point of her process is material sourcing. Hence the process usually begins with foraging and utilizing disregarded material that subsequently develop into three-dimensional sculptures or photographs.
During my stay at HIAP I will focus on two projects. The previous is a new project in development, working title “Fortune Teller Tapes”. The starting point are tape recorded fortune teller sessions from the 90s that I acquired and got permission to use. My work will entail listening to the sessions, analyzing them and trying to see patterns or common elements. I’m also going to experiment with visual presentation. The latter project is an ongoing older project, Wind n’ Bind. It is a framework to experiment with textiles and physical actions related to the caregiving environment.
