Wolf von Kries
Wolf von Kries is a German artist based in Berlin. Following his studies at the University of Fine Arts Berlin and the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Beaux Arts de Paris he has developed a multidisciplinary practice which includes installation, video, photography, drawing and collage.
Von Kries often creates subtle interventions in everyday routines and ordinary objects to suggest alternative ways to read our environment. More concerned with generating a shift of perception then actual physical transformations his approach has shifted over the years to encompass walking, gathering and (re)interpreting or juxtaposing his finds with phenomena of seemingly unrelated fields and disciplines. To this end research residencies and travelling (last in Mexico, India, Brazil and Korea) have become an integral part of his working practice.
Recent exhibiton projects and presentations have been at Museo EL ECO, Mexico City, DAAD Galerie Berlin, Biennale de Belleville, Paris, CEEAC Strassburg, Simultanhalle, Köln, Centre d’Art contemporain La Ferme du Buisson Marne La Vallee, Kunsthalle Schirn, and Tate Modern.
Wolf von Kries has been invited for a two-part residency at HIAP via the Residency Fellow Programme at the Academy of Fine Arts funded by the Saastamoinen Foundation. Residency is implemented in co-operation with HIAP.
