Yusuke Shimura
When he was a little boy, Yusuke Shimura (b. 1981) came across the phrase “the earth was blue” by Yuri Gagarin, the first human to journey into outer space. Shimura realized that a man can look at the earth and familiar things from a different perspective when one is outside the earth. This experience originated his attitude to see the earth, the world and the reality from multiple perspectives.
Now Shimura expresses his ideas and questions about the meaning of dreams to human beings, using Gagarin’s phrase as the base of his practice. He is also an artistic director of a new artist-in-residence project, Fuwari no Mori Art Project at Narita International Airport, Japan.
