Zlata Karyzska
Zlata Karyzska is an illustrator and visual artist from Kharkiv, Ukraine. In her practice Zlata mainly focuses on narrativity and explores personal and collective identity. A topic that you can observe in her works is devoted to Zlata`s home city Kharkiv, and memories about it. Besides, in her work she shares fragments from her daily life and surroundings.
In her work, she uses mostly traditional materials, like pencil and ink, combined with digital.
My goal for the residency is to explore the new limits, formats and topics, connected to memories and narrativity. I usually work with small format as an illustrator, so I am particularly interested in creating something big and mythological. As in my last works, I am working with the topic of identity and home, and how it affects me and other people. What is home? How memories influence future and stories that people create?
Zlata Karyzska’s residency at Art Centre Salmela is realised in the context of the Ukraine Solidarity Residencies programme.
The current partners of the programme are AARK, Art Centre Salmela, Connecting Points programme, Fairres, Goethe-Institut Finnland, HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme, Kristinestad Art Residency, Loviisa Art Support Association, Nelimarkka Museum, Pro Artibus, Tahmelan Huvila, The Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation, The Finnish Illustration Association Kuvittajat, and Värtsilä Artist Residency.
