The Helsinki International Curatorial Programme is calling for applications
HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme and Frame Contemporary Art Finland are looking for international curators of contemporary art to join the Helsinki International Curatorial Programme (HICP) in 2017.
The aims of the programme are two-fold:
To allow internationally active, professional curators the chance to connect with the local contemporary art field and plan projects in Helsinki and elsewhere in Finland.
To support curatorial research in its diverse and emergent forms.
The HICP curators-in-residence will live and work at HIAP’s international residency centre on the island of Suomenlinna, a 15 minute ferry-trip away from the centre of Helsinki.
HIAP offers the resident curators a combined workspace and accommodation. Frame provides them with a working grant and a travel allowance (39 euros per residency day). Both organisations provide the curator fellows with individualised assistance and networking support tailored to their project or research. The HICP curators have access to the international residency community and programme of events at HIAP, while Frame provides contacts with extensive networks of Finnish artists and other art professionals.
A public event, such as a lecture, workshop or screening, is organised as part of the residencies. The events are integrated either into Frame’s or HIAP’s programme, or they are organised in collaboration with local partner organisations. The events are designed to share the fellows’ curatorial research and projects with local professional audiences. The format of the event can vary depending on the specific characteristics of each project.
A one-month residency will be offered to four curators. In 2017, the residency periods will be organised as follows:
June 2017: two one-month curator residencies
November 2017: two one-month curator residencies
